The Format war is sluggishly drawing to an end and smiles are beginning to fade from the faces of HD DVD enthusiasts. The cruelest blow to the fate of the HD DVD format was dealt by Warner brothers when it withdrew its backing of the format a few days ago. Paramount is reportedly preparing to withdraw its support as well which leaves only universal pictures as the only film maker in support of the troubled format. There need not be any other explanation on my part for anyone to see that the future of HD DVD is bleak. Sony is the biggest supporter of blue ray technology and has singlehandedly raised the much needed support that the blue ray format has received. Other electronic firms such as Samsung have preferred to remain neutral by manufacturing dual players that are capable of playing discs in both format. Warner brothers' move brings to five the number of motion picture makers that now support blue ray. In fact unless Toshiba can make any headway in it's newest campaign to boost support for the format, an innovation may have died even before it was fully born.

So you know the clothes you want and where to get them but do you know the gadgets you will need to buy for this Christmas season and the approaching year. This is where I come in. I decided to write this article in the heat of the yuletide so I could make this list as informative as possible.
1 THE I PHONE
My first choice should not come as a surprise. The I phone is an unprecedented achievement from apple that redefines the touchscreen concept. Don't let this year go by without feeling, touching and experiencing the I phone.
2 SAMSUNG HYBRID DVD PLAYER.
Samsung will release this gadget in the middle of December. A DVD player that can play discs in the blue ray format and HD DVD format, It is the second of it's kind, the first being the player released by LG earlier this year.
3 THE PANASONIC LUMIX
If you are considering going on a vacation this Christmas, make sure you don't go without a Panasonic lumix camera. This brand of cameras give you an enhanced digital experience that beforehand existed only in your wildest dreams. Any member of the brand will do but I strongly suggest the DMZ FZ50 or FZ30.

This year would go down well in technology history because of the many resourceful gadgets that came out of it. For my special Christmas post I have decided to compile a list of the gadgets that stood out in the crowd and why they did so.
1. THE APPLE I PHONE
This stunning innovation from Apple tops my list for a lot of reasons that I need not mention. In my opinion I think the I phone is the only phone in the world that is truly in a class of it's own and the best gadget that came out of this year.
2. THE NINTENDO WII
Nintendo certainly took some time before coming out with a game console that was suitable for all ages but that time was well spent. The Nintendo wii lacks most of the mind blowing features that its rivals like the PlayStation 3 and xbox 360 have but it provides the best realistic gaming experience that you could get from any gaming console. A feature that Microsoft and Sony failed to incorporate in their own products.
3. THE LG DUAL FORMAT BLUE RAY PLAYER.
While other electronics manufacturers like Sony and Toshiba were busy with supporting only the HD DVD format, LG released its dual format blue ray player which has the ability to play discs in both blue ray and high definition format. The blue ray player also has the ability to play normal DVDs in the HD DVD format as well. So you can see why the LG blue ray player slides into my number 3 position with ease.
4. THE MICROSOFT SURFACE
Engineers at Microsoft are out to kill and this gadget underlines that ambition. The Microsoft Surface is a tabletop computer that requires neither keyboard nor mouse to operate it. Users use multi touch technology, similar to that used by Apple in the I Phone, to work with this baby. It can also sense digital and non digital objects when they are placed on it.
5. THE I POD TOUCH
Clearly, innovative ideas are the least of Apple's problems since the company has managed to sneak in two of it's products into this list. The I POD Touch is a major improvement by Apple from the nano I Pod. New and more amazing features have been added so that users can now have the Internet, entertainment and lots more at their beck and call. Simply put,This gadget is multi touch technology at full throttle.
6. THE ASUS GAMING NOTEBOOKS
If you are a game freak looking for a notebook that can effectively meet your needs and serve as a computer at the same time then this notebooks are for you. The G1S and the G2S are a finger licking pair and together they take the number 6 position without competition.
7. THE LOGITECH SQUEEZEBOX
Wireless Fidelity AKA WiFi is one of the technologies sweeping the globe. The squeezebox makes this list because it is the first gadget that allows people to fully maximize the uses of this technology. It is the simplest audio/internet radio streamer on the market and the most easy to use. However, It's lack of intergrated speakers and onboard controls drag it down to the number 7 position.
Sony Ericsson has launched a 3G USB modem, the MD-300, which is an HSPA modem. It is qua band GSM and tri band UTMS hence it is a global modem. The USB modem also serves as a 128MB memory stick and has both windows and mac drivers and it is also self installing. The mobile phone maker has also added two new members to the Walkman family: The W380 and the W890. This phones will be covered in more detail in the next article.
